Nursing Question

James kept a diary for the first months of his transition to professional practice (TPPP) and recorded a series of reflections, critical incidents and scenarios in which he was involved. Successful completion requires that students choose 3 modules (from Modules 3-11) found in the study plan, complete the activities and contribute their answers to the forum questions for CPD and TPPP consideration, linking them to James Bates experience and contributing to the discussion forum(200 words).  Students will only be able to see the contribution of other participants in their class after they have made an initial contribution per module. Students are then to provide 100 words of responses to other students. Here are the rules for the forum:

  • Refer to the forum questions for CPD & TPPP considerations below, engage with the activities in each of your chosen modules and link the experience of James Bates from Case Worldwhen contributing.
  • Please make a 200 word initial contribution that answers the forum questions linking the experience of James Bates, per chosen module followed by 100 words of responses to other students.
  • Contributions to the forum must includea brief background and explanation to provide context with regard to James. This is requiredfor each of your chosen modules.
  • Agree/disagree statements when responding must be accompanied with why you agree/disagree.
  • Responses tothe forum questions below may require you to access resources from other modules.
  • Responses must demonstrate interaction with other students.
  • All assertions must be supported by evidence.

Nursing Solution

Professional accountability (module 3)

Professional accountability can be used as a strategy during TPPP. The new graduate has to cope with the stress associated with various challenges in order to provide appropriate care to the patients (Lee et al. 2016).   Further, professional accountability will help the nurses to gain confidence and motivate them to acquire knowledge, which will prepare them for transition. The accountable and committed nurse often feels responsible for further learning and remains updated with theoretical and practical knowledge and practising evidence-based care. This will help the nurse in working patiently in the upcoming years. As a benefit towards CPD, it will help in the better transition and improved confidence to accept challenges. It will help in foreseeability and development of insight which will help in gaining self-confidence in attaining the goals (Azimian, Negarandeh & Fakhr-Movahedi 2014).

Professional accountability can be considered as a strategy to support the literature present in module 3 and in relation to the reflective journal of James Bates. Based on module 3, a nurse must work in collaboration with the inter-professional team. The nurse is responsible for accomplishing the needs of the patients and must be accountable for the care provided to them. The patients often complain that the nurses do not listen to them. This can also be related to the incident mentioned in the reflective journal of James, which stated that even after being called repeatedly by Mrs. Jack, the nurse did not turn up. This led to an accident, where Mrs. Jack fell down on the floor. Professional accountability is a challenge, which the novice nurse has to accept.

Resilience (module 5)

As a strategy during TPPP, resilience is an imperative quality to be attained by nurses. Resilience is the ability of a person to cope with the adversarial situations that take place in life. The stressful events cause poor physical and mental health, impaired concentration, compromised patient care quality, absenteeism and impairment in attention and working quality (Chesak et al. 2015). Improving resilience will help the nurses to promote a positive work culture, cope with the stressful working environment, self-education, personal development and taking appropriate care of the patients in the forthcoming years and will help build confidence to recover from stress (Hart, Brannan & Chesnay 2014). As a strategy for CPD, resilience will prevent the nurses from developing stress disorders and prolonged fatigue. It will also help in the retention of nursing staffs, improving longevity and minimizing absenteeism.  Resilience will also promote the nurses in improving self-awareness, confidence, sense of empathy, problem-solving skills, improving coping strategies, perception towards professional values and work-life balance (Grant & Kinman 2013).
